  1. A flight simulator is a computer-controlled 
  2. pilot-training device, consisting of an 
  3. artificial cockpit mounted on hydraulic legs, 
  4. that simulates the experience of flying a 
  5. real aircraft. Inside the cockpit, the 
  6. trainee pilot views a screen showing a 
  7. computer-controlled projection of the view 
  8. from a real aircraft, and makes appropriate 
  9. adjustments to the controls. In this way a 
  10. trainee pilot can progress to quite an 
  11. advanced stage of training without leaving 
  12. the ground.
