A flight simulator is a computer-controlled
pilot-training device, consisting of an
artificial cockpit mounted on hydraulic legs,
that simulates the experience of flying a
real aircraft. Inside the cockpit, the
trainee pilot views a screen showing a
computer-controlled projection of the view
from a real aircraft, and makes appropriate
adjustments to the controls. In this way a
trainee pilot can progress to quite an
advanced stage of training without leaving
the ground.
